We are passionately committed to educating the children in our care about the process and value of recycling by increasing awareness, engagement and most importantly our involvement in recycling and eco awareness.
We focus our daily activities around sustainability to increase the children’s understanding of the importance of recycling and how we can all make a difference in our own way. We have two large ‘cow bins’ where families and staff are encouraged to leave their recyclable materials which are then collected by DULSCO, who have been so supportive in our eco-efforts.
During our Curiosity Approach Accreditation we did a major spring clean of the nursery and donated all the resources we no longer needed to the Red Crescent. This gave us the opportunity to instead explore using recycled materials and natural resources, which completely transformed our setting. We support the mindfulness of nature here in the nursery, and have created a vibrant space decorated by recycled objects which have been carefully designed using general household objects such as corks, old CDs and plastic bottles. We have created mindful spaces and used tyres and reels to create small worlds areas.
We use eco-friendly and toxic free cleaning products such as “Ecover” in our toilets\bathrooms and when washing used plates and cutlery. This reduces the amount of chemicals the children come in contact with and allows us to contribute to a safer world. We do not use toxic air fresheners and instead our nursery is filled with relaxing water vaporizers only using pure essential oils. This makes everyone breathe safely and feel calm and relaxed.
