EYFS Curriculum

EYFS Curriculum

Kangaroo Kids Nursery in Dubai follows the British Early Years Framework EYFS.
The EYFS is a set of standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years. The British EYFS is an integrated approach to early learning and care, it is a common set of principles and commitments to provide high quality Early Years Education to all children. British EYFS standards are evident in all areas of our well-resourced nursery school in Dubai. It is prevalent in all our planning and interactions with children.

How will your child will be learning?

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children will mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

These prime areas are essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. They are the building blocks and foundations.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The Staff at our nursery in Dubai will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. We are a nursery school and the curriculum is similar to primary schools, but it’s suitable for very young children, and it’s designed to be really flexible so that our staff can follow your child’s needs and interests.

Learning takes place in your child’s classroom and in the many different learning zones around the nursery.

Children arrive to classrooms carefully laid out to create an enabling environment conducive to early learning and development which covers all areas of the British EYFS. We allow time for free flow between the learning zones in the class to encourage the children to lead their own learning. This self–led approach enables thought, self-expression and interest to develop. The teacher leads focused and carefully planned activities in small groups and uses this time to observe and assess the children whilst considering their next targets.

We understand that there are many subjects that a child must have the opportunity to explore, therefore we launch several books each both to inspire interest in these areas. We have a box of “Kangaroo Books of the Month” that we use as a Launchpad. How the children interpret this is unique and the teacher will embrace this to create their curriculum. Classrooms are turned into spaceships, airports, beach resorts which never fails to inspire the children and delight everyone taking part. Parents are invited to join us in the activities.

Learning is everywhere and our commitment to colourful and lively learning can be seen with a full day of activities that is varied and inspiring. We passionately believe that learning should also be in the moment and we encourage our teachers to allow the children to create their own learning journey by changing the flow and timetable of the class on any day to suit the children’s interest. There are often times when the children have become highly engaged in one area of learning and it would be imperative to complete their circle of learning before moving to the next activity.

The children enjoy Arabic, French, Ballet, Yoga, Science, Cookery, Swimming, Creative Art and visits to our Messy Play Zone. We employ professional companies to come in and deliver lessons such as Multi-Sports and Tennis. Several of our staff are also able to teach subjects such as Dance or Football due to previous qualifications and experience.
