EYFS Curriculum

EYFS Curriculum

Kangaroo Kids Nursery in Dubai follows the British Early Years Framework EYFS.
The EYFS is a set of standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years. The British EYFS is an integrated approach to early learning and care, it is a common set of principles and commitments to provide high quality Early Years Education to all children. British EYFS standards are evident in all areas of our well-resourced nursery school in Dubai. It is prevalent in all our planning and interactions with children.

How will your child will be learning?

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children will mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

These prime areas are essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. They are the building blocks and foundations.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The Staff at our nursery in Dubai will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. We are a nursery school and the curriculum is similar to primary schools, but it’s suitable for very young children, and it’s designed to be really flexible so that our staff can follow your child’s needs and interests.

Learning takes place in your child’s classroom and in the many different learning zones around the nursery.

Children arrive to classrooms carefully laid out to create an enabling environment conducive to early learning and development which covers all areas of the British EYFS. We allow time for free flow between the learning zones in the class to encourage the children to lead their own learning. This self–led approach enables thought, self-expression and interest to develop. The teacher leads focussed and carefully planned activities in small groups through the day and uses this time to observe and assess the children whilst considering their next targets.

Learning is everywhere and our commitment to colourful and lively learning can be seen with a full day of activities that is varied and inspiring. It is our strong belief that Early Years Learning should be playful; incorporating all learning styles and guided by the observation and assessment of the individual child’s needs.

We follow a monthly theme in each year group to steer the teacher focussed activities, culminating in a special day where the children, staff and classrooms are immersed in the theme for the day. Classrooms are turned into spaceships, airports, beach resorts which never fails to inspire the children and delight everyone taking part.

At our nursery in Dubai the children enjoy Arabic, Music and Movement, Science and Numeracy, Literacy and Early Writing Skills, Creative Art and visits to our Messy Play Zone. We employ professional companies to come in and deliver lessons such as Multi-Sports, Music and Ballet.

The curriculum extends all day at our nursery in Dubai with our Extra Learning Club: the children enjoy Cookery Club, Science Club, and Yoga for Kids, Boogie Babies Dance, Arts and Craft and our unique Fitness programme “Healthy Heroes”. The opportunity to develop new skills and try different experiences is a large part of the children’s day and is an element that makes the children feel happy to spend time in the nursery. All of these activities are included in the fees.
